The Via Ferrata Climbing Gear kit consists of one harness with a shock-absorbing lanyard and a helmet.
How does it work?
Book with card authorisation
Book online for the dates you need and only pay for your actual hire dates, not the time your gear spends in transit. Pay securely when you book. Your card is saved with Stripe for the damage authorisation shown, but that amount is not charged upfront.
Pickup or delivery
Collect and return in Nelson, or choose nationwide courier delivery (excluding the Chatham Islands). Allow at least three working days so your gear arrives before your hire starts.
Easy return
Repack courier orders securely in their original packaging with the prepaid return ticket, then hand them to the courier on the final day of your hire.
Plan around holidays
You can still book over public holidays, but stores are closed and delivery may take longer. If timing is tight, talk to us. Cancellations may incur a fee. See our Terms.

The Via Ferrata Climbing Gear kit consists of one harness with a shock-absorbing lanyard and a helmet.
There is no fee for climbing the Via Ferrata on Takaka Hill. It is publicly accessible and free for everyone to use.
The Via Ferrata was designed to be suitable for the everyday person - with families in mind. You don't need to have previous climbing experience. Anyone with a moderate fitness and a sense for adventure may attempt to climb it. Kids from the age of 12 seem to have great fun up there - though younger kids may still go if accompanied. We recommend a skilled caregiver to additionally belay any kids younger than 10.
